2-Days Capacity Building Workshop on Islamic Finance held at COMSATS Sahiwal in
collaboration with Center of Islamic Finance (COMSATS) and State Bank of Pakistan.
CIIT contributes towards promotion and development of Islamic Finance in Pakistan
through ‘Center of Islamic Finance’ (CIF, http://cif.ciitlahore.edu.pk/) (est. 2014).
The Center of Islamic Finance (CIF) is serving the noble cause of promoting research,
training & development, Shariah advisory and extensive outreach in the area of Islamic
Finance. CIF
This initiative provides an opportunity to the banking industry to develop their
human resource at their doorsteps. Fifth training workshop under this program took
place in Sahiwal on Tuesday 12th – Wednesday 13th December,
2017. Venue was Room C4 of Block C in CIIT Sahiwal.
The invitees of this workshop consisted on Ulema-e-karaam Islamic Scholars) and
Bankers of Sahiwal and surroundings.
All banks’ HR departments were invited via email to send their local bankers to
benefit from the workshop. Moreover all locan banks and prominent madrissas were
visited by Mr Bilal Mian in person and ulema and bankers were invited via invitation
cards.
The trainer nominated by State Bank of Pakistan for this workshop was Mufti Syed
Sabir Hussain, Sharia Adviser MCB Islamic Banking. He explained the various topics
of Shariah including fiqh-e-muamlat, riba and various modes and products of Islamic
Finance.
Head of Centre of Islamic Finance CIIT Dr AbdusSattar Abbasi had come from Lahore
to lead the session.
Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Worthy Director COMSATS Sahiwal was the Chief Guest.
Attendees included reknown Islamic Scholars, mostly Muftis from prominent Shariah
Education Institutes and managers, operation managers and other bankers from local
branches of various banks. Tea and Lunch was served to the participants on both
days of workshop.
All participants were awarded joint certificates from CIF & SBP on completion of
the training workshop.
Dr Abbasi informed the guests that CIF has taken many initiatives to promote Islamic
finance in the Country. Such as Global Forum on Islamic Finance (GFIF, http://gfif.ciitlahore.edu.pk)
it an annual event since 2013 which provides a platform for dynamic collaboration
among the national and international institutions and dignitaries where they successfully
network and share knowledge in the field of Islamic finance. He told that CIF also
publishes COMSATS Journal of Islamic Finance (CJIF, https://lahore.comsats.edu.pk/CIF/journal)
a double-blind peer reviewed research journal. CJIF provides a platform to researchers,
academicians and practitioners who are interested in new knowledge and in discussing
ideas, issues and challenges in the field of Islamic finance, banking, accounting,
business and economics. It further encourages qualitative and quantitative research
in Fiqh-al-Muamlat and Islamic jurisprudence. Dr Abbasi also told about CIF’s Islamic
Finance Excellence Awards (IFEA) that were initiated last year.
Closing Ceremony of 2-Days Capacity Building Workshop on Islamic Finance held at
COMSATS Sahiwal in collaboration with Center of Islamic Finance (COMSATS) and State
Bank of Pakistan.

Dr. Abdus Sattar Abbasi, Head, Center of Islamic Finance (CIF) thanked the management
of COMSATS Sahiwal for their support.
Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director COMSATS Sahiwal congratulated all participants
for completion of this training program. He extended his gratitude to the management
of State Bank of Pakistan and the Center of Islamic Finance for arranging this workshop
which will help to understand the essence of Islamic Finance.
The Chief Guest along with Head, Center of Islamic Finance distributed certificates
to all participants.
The ceremony ended up with concluding remarks of the Chief Guest followed by the
group photo.
