CUI Tops Shanghai World Ranking of Universities in Pakistan

The COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has achieved another milestone by becoming the 1^st number university in Pakistan and among the 601-700 band of universities of the world by the prestigious Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

A message by Worthy Rector CUI for all Faculty, Staff and Students of the University

Dear All,

I am pleased to inform you that by the grace of Allah, SWT after several years of efforts by the faculty members, staff and students as well as our collaborators and partners, we have achieved another milestone in the brief history of COMSATS University Islamabad by being declared Number 1 in Pakistan and among the 601-700 band of universities of the world by the prestigious Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

This is indeed a momentous occasion for the university that only after a year of its new charters enactment, we have achieved this milestone. In addition we are the youngest among the top four universities in Pakistan who are in the top 1000 Universities of the world as ranked by Shanghai ranking system, we are followed by old and prestigious names like Quaid-i-Azam University (ranked in the 701-800 band), University of Punjab (801-900 band) and Aga Khan University (901-1000 band). This achievement in ranking was partly a result of our recent milestone of being the highest research producer with over 2000 impact factor publications in a calendar year (2017), as well as having over 54 patents filed in recent 4 odd years.

I am also proud to note that this is the first time that a university from Pakistan has been ranked in such a higher band among the worlds’ top universities by the Shanghai Ranking.

This only makes it important for all of us, particularly the faculty and research students to play their parts, by devoting to the sole purpose of advancing the boundaries of knowledge so that we may continue our journey to the top 500 next year. I am confident that with our positive energy as well as aspirations to excel, we will continue to bring more accolades for our institution and country.

I would like to congratulate the entire CUI family for this distinction and encourage everyone to take a moment to celebrate being part of the Number 1 university in Pakistan.
